Joining the World's Greatest Air Force

I didn't announce it out to the Internet world...mainly for safety issues but my husband joined the Air Force! I am so proud of him!
I knew this was a long time coming because he was raised as an Army Brat. He was born in D.C moved to Germany then came back to the USA for many more moves within our country. He loves talking about those stories. He had mentioned a few times that he should have went to the Army right out of high school...but he didn't ..and I knew the topic of him going into our military was soon to come up in a conversation.

Well..eventually it did. To be honest..I hated the idea! I don't trust our government right now...I don't trust our world and the way life is going now. I absolutely did not want him be away ...from me..from our family...from home. But..I also knew that it was something that he had always wanted to do..something that would make him happy ..So..all I can do is support him with a smile and hold the fort down while he is gone.

Once we talked and he knew I was behind him and supported him...he didn't waste any time. It seemed like the next day papers were signed and we were getting ready for Basic Military Training. Wow.

I did know one thing that I wanted to have a say in and that was going Active Duty..I didn't want that to happen. I am not a traveler. I like home. I was raised here.I want to die here. I don't want to have to move my child from country to country or state to state along with all our belongings. Oh it would be a mess! I know military families do that..and some love it! I have all the respect in the world for them...but personally I don't know if I could sanely handle it.

So he joined the Air National Guard .. said the oath.. signed some papers..packed a bag and he was off January 2, 2013 at 6am to San Antonio, Texas on Lackland Air Force Base.

That fast.
It was done.
He is no longer mine
He belongs to our country

I'm proud
I'm sad
I'm scared

But like it or not..
We are on this journey
and
Here we go out into the wild blue yonder

The next few posts about our Air Force journey will be written "now" about "then" ...but I want to record these memories..Don't want to miss this!

  1. What an exciting time for you husband. It's so difficult to make that first step toward a dream but, luckily, he has you as a cheerleader!

    Good luck :)
